New movie touches on Mao's romantic side
BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A new movie on the late Chairman
Mao Zedong (1893-1976) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) made
its debut Monday, telling how Mao and his comrade Liu Shaoqi led
miners in a strike against the Kuomintang regime 80 years ago.
The movie, titled "Mao Zedong in Anyuan," reveals a piece of
real history, as the Anyuan Strike is one of the best-known
episodes of Mao's life.
Kang Jianmin, the director, has tried to depict a young and
energetic Mao, including the romance between him and his first
wife, Yang Kaihui.
Meanwhile, the movie also emphasizes the deep friendship
between Mao and Liu by having the duo wash their feet in one basin.
Liu was labeled the ``No.1 Capitalist Roader in China" during the
notorious ``cultural revolution" (1966-76), and died in prison.
The movie is a product of the Xiaoxiang Studio, Changsha City,
the capital of central China's Hunan Province, Mao's native area,
in advance of the 110th anniversary of Mao's birth this year.
