Chinese Leaders attend concert in memory of Mao's
anniversary

BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) --
Chinese leaders Jiang Zemin, Wen Jiabao, Zeng Qinghong,
Wu Guanzheng and Li Changchun Friday evening attended a
grand concert to mark the 110th birth anniversary of the
late Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976).
An orchestra of over 100 players
accompanied a 200-plus chorus at the concert, which was
held at the Great Hall of the People, in central
Beijing. Almost 10,000 people watched the performance.
The artists performed 20 classics of
Mao's era, led by the best-known "The East Is
Red", to show people's love and memory for the
"Great Leader".
At the end of the concert, the
leaders came up onto the stage
and shook hands with the artists.
Before the concert began, the leaders
had a brief meeting with Mao's relatives and took photo
with them.
The concert was sponsored by the
Ministry of Culture, the General Political Department of
the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and the Municipal
Government of Beijing, the national capital.
