Li Changchun meets with Mauritanian Prime Minister and president of the Mauritanian

NOUAKCHOTT, March 25  -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said here Tuesday that China is ready to push forward traditional friendship with Mauritania in the new era.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Mauritanian Prime Minister Zein Ould Zeidane.

"China would like to explore new way with Mauritania for cooperation based on mutual respect, equality and reciprocity," he said.

Zeidane said Mauritania would enhance strategic partnership with China and strengthen the cooperation on infrastructure and agriculture. He welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in Mauritania.

The prime minister also reaffirmed that Mauritania will continue adhering to one-China policy.

Also on Tuesday, Li met with Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghef, president of the Mauritanian National Union for Democracy and Development (Pacte National Pour la Democratie et le Development).

Li said no matter what the international situation has changed, China and Mauritania have maintained mutual trust and consultation and the cooperation in all fields have developed stably.

He expressed gratitude for Mauritania on its support to the issues like Taiwan and Tibet.

Li noted the CPC would like to further relations with the Mauritania National Union for Democracy and Development to promote mutual understandings of the two peoples and improve the state-to- state relations.

Waghef said the friendly relations between Mauritania and China conforms to the interest of the two sides, and his party would like to cement cooperation with the CPC and learn its experience in administration management.

After the meetings, Li witnessed the signing of an agreement on economic and technological cooperation.

Li arrived here Tuesday morning for an official goodwill visit at the invitation of Mauritania National Union for Democracy and Development after he concluded the visit to Algeria.

Mauritania is the second leg of Li's five-nation tour, which will also take him to Morocco, Tunis and Syria.
