RABAT, March 28 -- Strengthening China-Morocco friendship in the new era conforms to the fundamental interest of the two countries, and is conducive to international and regional peace and stability, a visiting senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said here on Wednesday.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with President of Moroccan Chamber of Counsellors Mustapha Oukacha.

Li said Sino-Moroccan relations have developed smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 50 years ago, and the two peoples have supported and trusted each other.

He indicated that Moroccan King's visit to China in 2002 and Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Morocco in 2006 pushed forward the bilateral ties to a new stage.

China will take the chance of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral ties to promote political trust, expand exchanges between the governments, parliaments and parties, and deepen the cooperation on trade, tourism and investment, Li said.

Oukacha said Morocco-China relations have developed smoothly and the two countries have shared same or similar view on many regional and international affairs.

He said Moroccan Chamber of Counsellors would cement the cooperation with the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Morocco is the third leg of Li's five-nation tour which will also take him to Tunisia and Syria.
