 (2008.05.27)

BEIJING, May 27 -- Wang Jiarui, a Communist Party of China (CPC) senior official, met with Filipe Paunde, Mozambique's Frelimo Party secretary general, here on Tuesday, and the two discuss further party-to-party exchanges.

Wang, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, spoke highly of exchanges between the CPC and the Frelimo Party in recent years, and hailed the important role played by the party-to-party exchanges in promoting relations between the two countries.

He believed Paunde's visit would deepen relations between the two parties and make fresh contributions to China-Mozambique cooperation in various fields.

Wang updated Paunde on the latest news about the devastating earthquake and relief efforts in Sichuan Province and other affected areas. He expressed his thanks to the international society, including Mozambique, which sent its sympathy and assistance following the May 12 quake.

Paunde said the revolution and construction of Mozambique have been strongly assisted by China and Mozambican people always bore deep feeling towards Chinese people, especially those from Sichuan, where the first medical team China sent to the country hailed from.

As the earthquake happened, China quickly responded and mobilized all the society to fight against the catastrophe. Now, related work was progressing smoothly and the society was being maintained in an orderly fashion, something that left Mozambicans quite impressed, Paunde said.

While Mozambique was not wealthy, it wanted to provide help within its capabilities to its brother country, Paunde added.

The two sides also briefed each other on the building of party and exchanged views on further party-to-party cooperation.
