He Guoqiang holds talks with Trinidad and Tobago PM

PORT OF SPAIN, June 27  -- Visiting senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) He Guoqiang held talks here Wednesday with Prime Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago.

He, member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, said it is in the fundamental interest of both countries and their peoples to strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation.

The Chinese side treasures its traditional friendship with Trinidad and Tobago and pays great attention to the development of bilateral friendly relations, said He, also secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

He said China will conduct friendly exchanges between governments, political parties and legislative bodies of the two countries.

He, who arrived here Wednesday after a goodwill visit to Cuba, expressed his appreciation for the Trinidad and Tobago government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Manning said the Trinidad and Tobago government attaches much attention to the development of bilateral ties and will further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Manning reiterated that the Trinidad and Tobago government will continue to abide strictly by the one-China policy.

After the talks, He and Manning attended a signing ceremony for four agreements on bilateral economic and technical cooperation.

He visited the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Ltd. Thursday.

Trinidad and Tobago is the second leg of He's four-country visit that will also take him to Brazil and Angola.
