BRASILIA, July 3 -- China
attaches great importance to its relations with Brazil, and is ready
to further promote the development of bilateral strategic
partnership, said visiting senior official of the Communist Party of
China (CPC) He Guoqiang Wednesday.
He, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the
CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with Brazilian
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
He said China will continue to keep high-level contacts with Brazil,
improve economic and trade cooperation, expand exchanges in such
fields as parliaments, political parties, culture, education,
science, technology and tourism, and strengthen cooperation in
international affairs.
He, who started the visit in the country Friday after a goodwill
visit to Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago, expressed his appreciation
for the Brazilian government's adherence to the one-China policy and
its support for China's efforts to oppose "Taiwan independence."
Lula said the exchanges between political parties have been playing
an important role in bilateral relations, and the Brazilian
government will continue to support the friendly exchanges and
cooperation in various forms between the political parties of the
two sides.
Lula expressed his satisfaction with the development of bilateral
relations and said he will continue to strengthen bilateral
strategic partnership.
Lula said he is looking forward to attending the opening ceremony of
the Beijing Olympic Games, which is scheduled to open on Aug. 8 this
year.
Brazil is the third leg of He's four-country visit that will also
take him to Angola.
