BEIJING, July 3  -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Hannes Germann, president of the Council of States of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland.

Wang said that Switzerland is one of the first western countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China and China-Switzerland relations have maintained smooth development since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the countries, with cooperation in various fields continuously strengthened. In particular, China and Switzerland signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) last July, which has created unprecedented opportunities and space for economic and trade cooperation as well as two-way investment of the two countries, said Wang. China highly commends the positive role played by the Council of States of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland in reviewing and approving the FTA and stands ready to further enhance its exchanges and cooperation with political parties and parliament of Switzerland so as to bring about more in-depth inter-party relations and bilateral relations between the two countries, said Wang. Wang also briefed the guest on China’s political system and China’s policies and positions on relevant hot-spot issues upon request.

Germann said that the China model is one that the Chinese people explored and found by themselves and is one that adapts to China’s own needs. Germann went on saying that the huge success of China’s development has drawn both admiration and misgivings from across the globe and the outside world need to deepen their understanding of the China model, and first of all, they must accept it. Political parties in Switzerland uphold openness by actively conducting exchanges and cooperation with parties from other countries and are ready to strengthen their candid dialogue and cooperation with the CPC, said Germann.
