Nay Pyi Taw, August 11th--Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met here today with former state leader Than Shwe of Myanmar.

Song said that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and developing China-Myanmar friendship is the common aspiration shared by the two peoples. China supports the efforts of various parties of Myanmar in developing economy, improving people’s livelihood and promoting national reconciliation, and stands ready to strengthen friendly exchanges with all Myanmar’s major political parties to enhance political mutual trust and promote the development of China-Myanmar relations.

Than Shwe said that China is Myanmar’s good neighbor and true friend, who has provided long-term and generous support and assistance to Myanmar’s economic and social development. Currently, Myanmar has entered the critical stage of transformation and development. It needs to further learn from China’s experience in state governance and administration and strengthen cooperation with China in various fields. Myanmar appreciates that the CPC conducts friendly exchanges with various political forces in Myanmar to consolidate the political foundation of relations between the two countries.
