Song Tao Meets with General Chairman of Great Indonesian Movement Party and Minister of Defence of Indonesia

Beijing, December 17th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Prabowo Subianto, General Chairman of Great Indonesian Movement Party and Minister of Defence of Indonesia.

Song welcomed Prabowo's visit to China shortly after taking office as Defense Minister, said that China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors and the comprehensive strategic partners. In recent years, President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo have met for many times, and reached important consensus on creating a new situation in the era featuring mutually beneficial and win-win results and common development, charting the course for the further development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Indonesia to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen cooperation in areas such as jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and push for new progress in China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Song said that political parties are the source and important implementers of national and foreign policies, and inter-party exchanges are playing an increasingly important role in promoting state-to-state relations. The CPC attaches great importance to relations with the Great Indonesian Movement Party, and is willing to take the 5th anniversary of the establishment of inter-party relations this year as an opportunity to strengthen experience exchange in party governance and state administration, promote exchanges at all levels and strengthen political and public opinion foundation of relations between the two countries to promote our respective countries’ development and benefit the two peoples.

Song also briefed on the fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

Prabowo spoke highly of the great development achievements China has made under the leadership of the CPC and China’s increasing international influence, and appreciated China's commitment to developing China-Indonesia relations on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affair. He said that the Great Indonesian Movement Party cherishes the friendly exchanges with the CPC, and is willing to learn the CPC’s experience in party governance and state administration in an in-depth manner, promote communication in party building, and cadre training, promote bilateral pragmatic cooperation in all areas and promote the relationship between Indonesia and China to achieve greater development.

After the talks, the two Parties signed the memorandum of exchange and cooperation between the CPC and the Great Indonesian Movement Party.

Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, and Zhu Rui, Assistant-minister of the IDCPC, attended relevant events.
