BEIJING, May 16 -- Senior Chinese leader Luo Gan met with General Secretary Mpho Malie of Lesotho Congress for Democracy on Wednesday, calling on joint efforts to strengthen China-Lesotho all-round exchanges.

Luo, Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), told Malie China always regards Lesotho as a sincere friend, and is ready to join hands with the country to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation, and to implement the consensus reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation last year.

Malie echoed that African countries including Lesotho welcome very much the eight favorable measures for Africa that Chinese President Hu Jintao announced at the summit, which help strengthen Africa-China pragmatic cooperation and promote common development.

The eight measures include the establishment of three to five trade and economic cooperation zones in Africa in the next three years, debt relief for African countries with diplomatic ties with China, and the building of 30 hospitals and 30 centers for malaria prevention and treatment.

As for party exchanges, Luo said both the CPC and Lesotho Congress for Democracy, which is Lesotho's ruling party, shoulder the same responsibility of maintaining social stability, developing economy and improving people's living.

"The CPC is willing to keep high-level visits with Lesotho Congress for Democracy, share experience in administering the state and boost personnel exchanges," he said.

Malie told Luo Lesotho Congress for Democracy is determined to further step up exchanges with the CPC in a bid to uplift country-to-country relations.

Luo also briefed Malie about China's principled stance on the Taiwan issue. Malie said the government and ruling party of Lesotho will continue steadfastly sticking to the one-China policy.

Malie also appreciated China's great achievements it has made in its reform and opening-up drive, adding he is glad to see China's increasing role in international affairs.
