LOME, Sept. 6 -- Nigerien Prime Minister Seyni Oumarou has met with a
delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) which is visiting Niger at the
invitation of the ruling National Movement for the Society of Development (MNSD-NASSARA).
During the meeting, which took place Wednesday, the two sides exchanged
views on relations between the two countries.
Describing Niger as an important West African country, the head of the
delegation, Li Jinjun who is also vice minister of international department of
CPC, said that China was keen to enhance ties with Niger.
Since the re-establishment of diplomatic ties with Niger 11 years ago,
our ties have continued to experience tremendous growth, Li said.
In recent years, mutual trust between our two countries has strengthened,
cooperation on economic and trade issues is fruitful and our two countries
support one another and agree on international matters, Li said.
"On behalf of the Chinese government, I would like to thank Niger for its
continued support on issues of human rights and Taiwan," the head of the Chinese
delegation said.
"We are equally grateful to the MNSD, which, since it took over power,
has always labored to nurture and foster good Sino-Nigerien relations," said Li,
underlining the need for healthy relations between the two ruling parties were
important for the two countries.
On his part, Nigerien prime minister termed cooperation between the two
countries as excellent before adding that Niger will always remain by the side
of China. I hope that our two countries will work even further to consolidate
and develop their ties, the prime minister said.
The prime minister, who recalled that China had accorded significant
amounts of money to his country in interest-free loans within the framework of
bilateral and multilateral agreements, expressed Niger's gratitude for China's
continued assistance.
Turning to the issue of Taiwan, Prime Minister Oumarou underscored
Niger's policy of one China saying that this will always remain the case.
