Nigerien president meets with delegation of Communist Party of China

  NIAMEY, Sept. 7 -- Nigerien President Mamadou Tandja on Friday met with a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was led by Li Jinjun, vice minister of the international department of the CPC.

  "During the meeting with the president, we reviewed cooperation between the CPC and the ruling National Movement for the Society of Development (MNSD-NASSARA) and also between our two governments, " Li said at the end of the meeting.

  Li said that he had raised the "issue of the future of the relations between the two parties and governments" with the president, adding that "President Tandja assured me that Niger will always maintain an attitude of friendship in its dealings with China and that this policy will not be changed," Li said.

  According to the head of the Chinese delegation, the president also spoke of the need "to strengthen economic and trade ties between our two countries."

  Convinced that cooperation between China and Niger could potentially contribute to both regional and world peace, "the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation between the two parties," Li said.

  The meeting between the two sides was also attended by the Chinese ambassador to Niger and Nigerien foreign minister Aichatou Mindaoudou.

  Earlier Wednesday, the Chinese delegation, which is visiting the country at the invitation of the ruling National Movement for the Society of Development (MNSD-NASSARA), had held a meeting with Nigerien Prime Minister Seyni Oumarou where various bilateral issues were discussed.
