Wang Jiarui meets former Tanzanian president

  BEIJING, Sept. 12 -- Wang Jiarui, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Wednesday met with Benjamin Mkapa, former Tanzanian president and former chairman of the Revolutionary Party of Tanzania.

  Wang, minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, said he appreciated Tanzania's support to China on the Taiwan issue and it is high time and there is room for the two countries to strengthen their friendship, adding that China is ready to make joint efforts with Tanzania to promote such cooperation.

  Mkapa spoke highly of China's policies toward Tanzania, noting that his country attaches great importance to its friendship with the CPC, the Chinese government and the Chinese people, and is eager to learn from China's experiences of success.

  Mkapa said he would remain committed as before to further promoting the friendship between Tanzania and China.
