Leaders of foreign countries, parties congratulate Hu Jintao
on re-election as CPC party chief

  BEIJING, Oct. 22 -- Leaders of some foreign countries or political parties have sent messages to Hu Jintao congratulating him on his re-election as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

  In his message, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf extended his sincere felicitations on the successful holding of the CPC Congress.

  "I would also like to warmly congratulate Your Excellency and the newly elected leadership of the Communist Party of China and wish you all and the friendly people of China every success in the years ahead," he said.

  Vladimir Voronin, chairman of the Moldovan Party of Communists and president of Moldova, said Hu's re-election, the election of a younger CPC Central Committee as well as the programs of action set at the CPC Congress are yet another manifestation of the CPC's ideological and organizational unity.

  He said his party is firmly convinced that the CPC would continue to make big strides toward building a socialist harmonious society.

  Voronin also expressed his party's sincere hope of maintaining the good party-to-party cooperative ties with the CPC.

  Sam Nujoma, president of Namibia's SWAPO Party, extended congratulations on Hu Jintao's re-election as the CPC general secretary, saying: "Your re-election is a clear demonstration of the Communist Party of China and the entire Chinese people's confidence in your able and successful leadership."

  Nujoma said that under Hu's leadership, the Chinese government has adopted and implemented a series of excellent and robust policies, and he is confident that the strong bonds of solidarity between SWAPO and the CPC and the two countries will continue to be strengthened and consolidated.

  George Papandreou, president of the Pannellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and president of the Socialist International, said China is a rising power of the 21st century.

  He hoped PASOK would benefit from an ever closer cooperation with the CPC under Hu's leadership.

  Marie-George Buffet, national secretary of the Communist Party of France, congratulated Hu on his re-election, and wished the Chinese people and Hu himself great successes in future.

  Francois Hollande, first secretary of the French Socialist Party, said Hu would succeed in tackling various challenges in China's future development, and play an important role in regional affairs and global development.

  Jose Renato Rabelo, chairman of the Brazilian Communist Party, and Jose Carvalho, secretary of the international relations, offered congratulations on Hu's re-election as party chief and on the elections of the new CPC Central Committee, the Political Bureau and the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC.
