Leaders of foreign countries, parties congratulate Hu
on re-election as CPC party chief

  BEIJING, Oct. 23 -- Leaders of more foreign countries and parties have sent congratulatory messages to Hu Jintao on his re-election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

  In a congratulatory message, Omar Bongo Ondimba, president of the Gabonese Democratic Party and president of Gabon, wished Hu success in fulfilling his important and noble mission as CPC general secretary.

  Ondimba said Hu's historic visit to Gabon in 2004 and his numerous visits to China embody the friendly cooperative ties between the two peoples.

  He said he is convinced the relations between the two parties would be further consolidated, bringing more benefits to the two peoples.

  Levy Mwanawasa, president of Zambia's Movement for Multi-party Democracy and president of Zambia, expressed his heartfelt congratulations on Hu's re-election as the CPC general secretary.

  "Zambia and China have enjoyed cordial and friendly relations since we attained our independence in 1964," Mwanawasa said.

  "I am delighted to underscore that these relations continue to flourish and more especially during my presidency, the relations can be described in one word as excellent," Mwanawasa said.

  Hu's re-election demonstrates the confidence the party and the Chinese people have in his ability and commitment to China's development and progress, said James A. Michel, general secretary of the Seychelles People's Progressive Front and president of the Seychelles.

  With the development of bilateral ties, the friendly relationship of mutual trust between the two parties and the friendship between the two peoples will be strengthened steadily, Michel said.

  Michel said his party and country cherish the bilateral friendship and will make continued efforts to boost the good relations between the two peoples.

  Bashar al-Assad, general secretary of the Baath Arab Socialist Party and Syrian president, wished Hu every success in leading the Chinese people in their march toward achieving sustainable development and prosperity.

  Assad said the two countries and parties have enjoyed good cooperative ties which will be further enhanced in the coming years.

  Sergey Stanishev, president of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and Bulgarian prime minister, said his party followed with great interest the the convening of the CPC congress and that the CPC, under Hu's leadership, will succeed in implementing the important decisions made at the congress.

  The Bulgarian Socialist Party will seize the opportunity and conduct all-round cooperation with the CPC, he said.

  The decisions adopted at the 17th congress conform entirely to the interests of the Chinese people and are of great significance to China's future development, the improvement of the people's livelihood and the deepening of international cooperation, said Victor Yanukovych, leader of the Regions Party of Ukraine and Ukrainian prime minister.

  The congress also showed that China will continue to deepen the policy of reforms and opening-up and continue to follow the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in international affairs, Yanukovych said.

  Yanukovych spoke highly of the mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries, saying Ukraine regards China as an important partner for cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

  Through joint efforts of both sides, further progress will be achieved in mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and China, Yanukovych added.

  Lee Hsien Loong, prime minister of Singapore, also sent a congratulatory message to Hu Jintao on his re-election, saying that China will be able to tackle the challenges ahead and realize its full potential.

  Lee applauded the just-concluded CPC National Congress, saying the endorsement of the Scientific Outlook on Development at the congress will set the foundation for the next phase of China's development.

  Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong extended his "warmest congratulations" to Hu Jintao on the successful conclusion of the CPC Congress and Hu's re-election as the party general secretary.

  "I am confident that under your leadership, China will successfully meet the challenges ahead and contribute to a better world," he said.

  Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's minister mentor, said in his message that China has achieved tremendous economic and social progress under Hu's leadership and is moving toward a more equitable and harmonious society.

  "Given another generation of peace and stability, China's rapid development will transform China into a modern industrial-technological nation and will bring tremendous benefits to Asia and the world," he said.

  Prakash Karat, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), offered congratulations and good wishes for Hu's leadership.

  "We look forward to the strengthening of fraternal relations between our two parties which will contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations and cooperation between India and China," he said.

  In his message, A.B. Bardhan, general secretary of the Communist Party of India, wished great success to the CPC in its endeavor to build socialism with Chinese characteristics and a harmonious socialist society in China.

  He called the Scientific Outlook on Development an important contribution to the theory of building socialism, adding that guided by the Marxist world outlook, the CPC has obtained rich experience in socialist construction.

  Somawansa Amarasinghe, leader of the JVP (People's Liberation Front of Sri Lanka), noted the 17th congress's reiteration that China will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy of peace and follow the path of peaceful development.

  The newly-elected leadership will "without any doubt" steer China into the new era of building a prosperous harmonious society, Amarasinghe said.

  Sekou Konate, general secretary of the Party of Unity and Progress of Guinea, said Hu's re-election reflect the confidence the Chinese people and the CPC party members have in him. The cooperation between the two parties will be further strengthened, Konate added.

  Jacob D. Nkate, general secretary of the Botswana Democratic Party, said in his message that his party will continue to cooperate with Hu and strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and solidarity with the CPC.

  Sean Dorgan, general secretary of the Republican Party of Ireland, extended congratulations on Hu's re-election.

  Though the two countries differ in scale and size, there are parallels in their respective national experiences which deepen mutual understanding, he said.

  The leaders, parties and organizations that have also congratulated Hu on his reelection as CPC general secretary include:
