Wang Jiarui meets with French Foreign Minister

BEIJING, Nov. 1 -- Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

Wang said that China attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and looks forward to making joint efforts with France to cement China-France relationship by viewing it from a strategic height and long-term perspective. He spoke highly of the inter-party relations between the two sides, saying that the CPC is wishing to constantly deepen exchanges and cooperation with major political parties in France so as to inject new vigor into friendly relations of the two countries.

Kouchner extended congratulations on the success of the Seventeenth National Congress of the CPC and commended the important and positive role that China has played in international affairs. He said that France and China have maintained close communication and effective collaboration in the United Nations and on regional and international hot-spot issues. He believed that China's international influence will be on constant rise and hoped that strategic cooperation with China will be strengthened in all respects.
