BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- More countries have sent messages of
condolence and aid to China in view of the devastating earthquake
that hit the country's southwestern Sichuan province on May 12, a
Chinese Foreign Ministry press release said Thursday.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has recently offered his
condolences to China, while the Peruvian parliament once again
passed a motion to offer condolences to the Chinese government and
people over the quake, and express its support for China's quake
relief efforts.
Meanwhile, Vietnam has donated 200,000 U.S. dollars, 150 tents and
10,000 cans of milk power, and the Philippines have pledged aid
worth 100,000 dollars for the victims of the quake.
Luxembourg will provide an additional 250,400 euros (398,773 U.S.
dollars) worth of aid to China, including 50,000 euros (77,830
dollars) in cash and 2,150 tents.
Till midday Thursday, 68,516 people were confirmed dead in the
8.0-magnitude earthquake, which had its epicenter in Sichuan's
Wenchuan county. The number of injured has reached 365,399, while
19,350 people are missing.
