China marks Deng Xiaoping's centennial 

  BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- China has held a variety of activities like forums to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. 

  At a forum, members from the Committee of Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China said Deng Xiaoping's theory about peaceful reunification and "One country, Two systems" are practical and provide a basic direction for reunification. China Radio International reported Wednesday. 

  Alumni association of the Huang Pu Military Academy also called for all its alumni, together with their relatives living at home or abroad, to contribute to the country's peaceful drive towards reunification. 

  Meanwhile, the China Literature and History Institute is holding a calligraphy and painting exhibition in Beijing to commemorate the late Chinese leader. 

  The same day, Chinese mission to the United Nations and Chinese Embassy to France also held forums or other commemorative activities.
