Delegates, distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning!

Taking the opportunity of the 3rd ICAPP conference, we are gathering here today at this most famous ancient building in China — the Temple of Heaven — for a ceremony of “Signature for Peace”. This activity is organized to give expression to the wishes of participants of the conference, which echo to the voices for peace of the entire Asian people.

ICAPP is a new forum for political parties in Asia to strengthen their cooperation and promote peace and development in the region. Based on mutual respect, the conference has helped enhance and expand multilateral exchanges and cooperation among Asian political parties in a constructive way. Over the past two days, in a friendly and enlivened atmosphere we have conducted positive and fruitful discussions focusing on the theme of “exchanges, cooperation and development” and the discussions have produced wide-ranging results. We have every reason to believe that with the joint efforts of all participating parties to this conference, Asia will take on a new prospect of prosperity and progress in the 21st century.

Asia has a multicultural civilization with a long history. In the process of historical evolution that has lasted for thousands of years, Asia has cultivated a philosophy that “ Peace is most valuable”, and has developed a social ethic of “working together with one heart”, which have encouraged different peoples and different cultures in Asia to exchange with each other, blend with each other, and develop side by side. Let our prayers for peace resound to the skies and bring warmth to every corner of our continent and finally be read by all people throughout the world.

Let us wish and pray en masse: May peace reign supreme in this world!

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, political party representatives from different countries of Asia, inspired by the same wish, are gathering here for a ceremony of “Signature for Peace”. On behalf of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing Municipal People’s Government and the 14 million plus Beijing people, I extend warm welcome to our friends! It is a great honor for the city of Beijing and its citizens to be host of this great ceremony. I believe that today’s event will add splendor to the 3rd International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

Dear friends, the 3rd ICAPP demonstrates to the world the good wishes of Asian political parties to preserve world peace and promote Asian prosperity. It is due to the peaceful international environment that Asia has achieved rapid development in the past ten plus years. Peace is not only the prerequisite for development and progress of human society, but also the fundamental guarantee for continued prosperity of Asia!

With excitement and joy we are standing here amidst the beautiful scenery of the Temple of Heaven Park, in front of the magnificent Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest. This is the place where our ancestors prayed for good whether and bumper harvest, a symbol of the Chinese people’s aspiration for peace and perfection. Today, we gather here for such a meaningful event, which can express the fervent desires of Asian political parties and the entire Asian population for peace in Asia and in the world. Meanwhile, it is also an embodiment of the wish of millions of ordinary Beijing citizens and of the entire Chinese nation for a peaceful and prosperous Asia! Beijing, a peace-loving city, will remember forever this special moment on this special day.

Dear friends, I now call on all of you to join me and solemnly sign our names with the following commitment: we shall strive for the cause of preserving peace for mankind and we shall strive to create a bright future for Asia!
