The people of Independent and Neutral Turkmenistan have chosen its unrepeated and specific way of development in the building of democratic, legal, secular society of justice. This way is based on the ancient national traditions of the Turkmen people their national peculiarities, mentality and at the same time it takes into account generally accepted principles of democracy in a society.

In the political system of sovereign Turkmenistan leading role is given to the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan in the process of strengthening independence, deepening of democracy, social-economic, cultural development of the country and national revival movement. It was formed in December of 1991 year-after a few weeks of Turkmenistan’s Independence. Formation of a political party of a new democratic type came together with the ideas and principles of transition to the new state of the society, building of a democratic state.

Chairman of Turkmenistan Democratic Party was elected by the people. It is Saparmurat Atayevich Niyazov, initiator of the party, first President of Turkmenistan.

The party accepted all the objective national interests of the Turkmen people together with specific interests of groups and layers inhabiting our country, requirements, rights and freedom of an individual it means common democratic and common human values of Turkmen people. Its main aim is strengthening of real state power in Turkmenistan and building a human democratic society in it. Taking into consideration the necessity of consolidation of the society free development of all nations inhabiting the country. Turkmenistan Democratic Party is open to cooperation with all social forces which support democratic ideals and thinking.

Party organizations play a leading role in the realization of economic reforms in the transition to socially oriented market relations.

In his speech at the 2nd Congress of Turkmenistan Democratic Party at the end of 1998, Turkmenistan President, Chairman of DPT highly estimated the Party activity. All our achievements — state building neutrality, social and economic stability are in this or that way connected with its activity. The Party found and took its place in mass propaganda work involving people in the creative building of a new society.

Turkmenistan political situation is characterized by joining efforts, close coordination by the activities of the party, all the social organizations of the country. Leading role is played by the new initiative of the state head on the formation of unique unification of social organizations:Turkmenistan national revival movement “Galkynysh”. The idea of its formation was announced by Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Turkmenbashi the Great only a year later after the independence of the country at the end of 1992. The head of the state, Turkmenistan Democratic Party leader proposed the party to take active part and play a decisive role in the formation of this movement into which professional unions of youth, veterans, women and other social organization, creative unions. Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens which established close contacts with foreign turkmens entered it.

Brief characteristics of the essence and aims of the new social unity was given in the report of Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Turkmenbashi in the first congress of national revival movement “Galkynysh” at the beginning of 1994. This document points out that national revival movement is all-people struggle to bring Turkmenistan among highly developed countries of the world for happy and rich life of the people. It is the struggle of the people to get their happiness under the banner of world unity, cooperation and hard work. It is a struggle to form developed economy and culture in Turkmenistan. It is a struggle to raise the respect and dignity of the Turkmen people.

Favorable conditions for strengthening of national revival movement created during Independence years measures to restore and develop specific rich culture of turkmens and other peoples living in our country restore old progressive traditions and customs widening the sphere of influence of the Turkmen language as a state language to learn other languages restoration of historical monuments.

This policy developed further in the main theory of Saparmurat Turkmenbashi Rukhnama creates for all the citizens of Turkmenistan all possible opportunities to increase knowledge enrich one’s outlook to get fundamental education. The movement ’Galkynysh’ promote to all party organizations, social organizations, creative unions of the country to act cooperatively, hand in hand with state organizations involved in upbringing and education work.

Illustrative indication of close cooperation of party, social organizations became the holding at the end of 2001 year joined sessions of 3 Congress of Turkmenistan Democratic Party.

Turkmenistan Democratic Party closely cooperates with political parties of foreign countries. Regular exchange of delegations, meetings, talks with leaders of these parties are held. Speaking in the capital of the People’s Republic of China with great pleasure and declare that we have established systematic connection between Turkmenistan Democratic Party and the Communist Party of China. Regular exchange of delegations of both parties plays a noticeable role in the public political life of our friendly countries and the peoples. In the process of the visit party leaders exchange opinions on the realization of the reforms successfully carried out in Turkmenistan and China in the economic sphere, state organization, in social, spiritual lives, on the place of these renovations processes in Turkmenistan Democratic Party and the Communist Party of China.

Turkmenistan Democratic Party highly respected by the population makes a deserving contribution into the national development of the country. Past 2003 year was proclaimed as the year of Turkmenistan Hero Gurbansoltan ebje has been very successful in all the spheres of life in the country. In the course of the whole year main branches of economy developed intensively, stably with high rates. Growth of gross production came up to 23% to the level of 2002 year.

Developing levels of economic cooperation of Turkmenistan and People’s Republic of China in developing oil and silk industries must be pointed out.
