We
have gathered here to exchange our feelings, ideas and
experiences in our own societies about common goals toward a
better world. In spite of many differences in languages,
races, religions, cultures, historical backgrounds, and levels
of economic and social development, it seems all of us, have
so many common hopes and ideals about a more democratic, more
justice and more developed future.
In
spite of huge potentials and abilities, the great Asia faces
serious problems and difficulties such as:
,Threats
against peace from inside and outside,
,Historical
misunderstandings among nations,
,High
population growth rate, as well as large amount of population
in some regions,
,Continuation
of illiteracy at large percents,
,Cultural
impersonality and uncontrolled penetration of destructive part
of western culture,
,Poverty
and unjust distribution of wealth,
,Lack
of enough participation of people in important political
events and decisions,
,Existence
of regimes and powerful groupes who resist against democracy
,Lack
of tolerance vis-a-vis different thoughts and different
parties and minorities.
These
problems and obstacles seem to be well understandable and
familiar for all participants in this Conference. We believe
that our way to a democratic, peaceful, just and developed
world is lengthy, difficult and full of expenses and dangers.
This way needs continued efforts, wisdom, tolerance,
persistence, logical leadership and abnegation.
After
several extensive and expensive experience of human kind
throughout its history, we think that it is more beneficial to
follow evolutionary rather than revolutionary methods to reach
our long-term goals. We think that although it takes more time
and it is more complicated and difficult, pursuing reforms
covers the least cost and is the most effective way to reach
real freedom and democracy. We believe that democracy is not a
good to be imported, nor a gift to be awarded. Democracy is
something to get not something to give. Hence only people,
themselves, are able to create a democratic regime and protect
it.
