BEIJING, June 23 -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a delegation of the Social Democratic Party of Japan (JSP) led by Tadatomo Yoshida, chief of the JSP.

Cooperation would benefit China as well as Japan, Wang said, while confrontation only hurts both. He said that China has always insisted on working towards the general direction of China-Japan friendship, bending on properly settling disputes and differences through dialogue and consultation, but now the key to the problem is in the hands of Prime Minister Abe and the Japanese government, who must make concrete and credible efforts for the improvement of China-Japan relations. Wang spoke highly of Chief Yoshida’s visit, saying that it fully reflects the positive attitude and a sense of responsibility for better China-Japan relations on the part of the JSP. He underlined the willingness of the CPC to enhance frank dialogue and friendly exchanges with the JSP, and contribute to the improvement of China-Japan relations.

Yoshida said that, at present, the Japan-China relationship is at the nadir since the normalization of relations, and that the JSP, deeply concerned, is willing to push the Japanese leaders and government towards making positive efforts to improve the Japan-China relationship. As a political force long dedicated to upholding the pacifist constitution, the JSP will continue to work for a Japan that develops peacefully and builds trust with its Asian neighbors, Yoshida said. He also highlighted the high importance the JSP attaches to its friendly relationship with the CPC, saying that his party is willing to continue its work for Japan-China friendship under the guidance of the four political documents between Japan and China, use its influence to spread objective and positive information in Japan, and do every thing within its capacity to increase Japanese people’s understanding of, and friendliness to, China.
