 ( 2019.06.08 )

At the invitation of the Irish government, You Quan, Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, led a CPC delegation to pay a friendly visit to Ireland from June 5th to 7th. During the visit, You met with Sean O’Fearghail, Chairperson of the Dail Eireann, Simon Coveney Deputy Leader of Fine Gael, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Michael Begley, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council.

You said that China and Ireland have long understood and supported each other, and the two peoples enjoy a profound traditional friendship. In recent years, China and Ireland have had close high-level exchanges, fruitful economic and trade cooperation, and in-depth people-to-people exchanges, and have maintained regular communication in international and regional affairs. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Ireland. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Irish side to deepen practical cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, infrastructure construction, modern agriculture, energy conservation and environmental protection, strengthen personnel exchanges, and push the mutually beneficial strategic partnership between China and Ireland to a new level. The CPC attaches great importance to inter-party exchanges and is willing to strengthen exchanges and learn from each other with the political parties of the Parliament of Ireland, so as to contribute to the development of state-to-state relations.

O’Fearghail and others said that the Irish side highly appreciates the great achievements made by the CPC in economic and social fields, especially in the poverty alleviation since the 18th CPC National Congress, and cherishes the traditional friendship between Ireland and China. The Irish side is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, investment, education and tourism, and promote the continuous development of Ireland-China relations. In addition, the political parties of the Parliament of Ireland are willing to strengthen exchanges and enhance mutual understanding with the CPC.

During the visit, You also paid a field trip to Shannon Free Zone and held talks with representatives of local overseas Chinese, Chinese-funded institutions, and overseas students.
