Teheran, July 28th-- Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Kamal Kharrazi, Chairman of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations (SCFR) of Iran.

Song made positive comments on China-Iran relations. He said that China always views its relations with Iran from a strategic and long-term perspective and China's determination to develop the comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran will not change. China has always adhered to the diplomatic purposes of maintaining world peace and promoting common development, upheld multilateralism and opposed unilateralism, hegemonism and power politics. The IDCPC is willing to conduct various forms of exchanges and cooperation with the SCFR, strengthen strategic communication, enhance political mutual trust between both countries, and push for the sustained, healthy and stable development of China-Iran relations. China is firmly committed to upholding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue and is ready to work with other parties to continue to fulfill its obligations under the JCPOA. We call on all parties to exercise restraint, meet each other halfway and avoid escalation of tension.

Kharrazi said that “Looking East” and “Looking China” are important components of Iran's foreign policy. As comprehensive strategic partners, Iran-China relations enjoy broad prospects for further development. The SCFR attaches great importance to conducting friendly exchanges with the IDCPC and is ready to make joint efforts to promote the implementation of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on Iran-China relations.
