President of Sri Lanka Meets with Chen Miner

Colombo, September 18th--Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka, met here today with Chen Miner, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee.

Chen first conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping. He said that President Xi's meetings with Your Excellency have charted the course for the development of China-Sri Lanka relations in the new era. The CPC is ready to deepen exchanges of experience in state governance and administration with all political parties in Sri Lanka and push for continuous development of China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership featuring sincerity, mutual assistance and long-lasting friendship. Chongqing is ready to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, strengthen practical cooperation with local governments of Sri Lanka and provide more impetus for the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Sirisena asked Chen to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi. He said that the Sri Lankan government and people cherish the traditional friendship between Sri Lanka and China, thank China for speaking up for Sri Lanka on the international stage for a long time, and bear in mind China's selfless help to Sri Lanka as well as appreciate China's outstanding contributions to upholding multilateralism and promoting global development. Sri Lanka's political parties firmly support the Belt and Road Initiative and are ready to deepen exchanges with the CPC, strengthen experience sharing and mutual learning in poverty alleviation and party building and push for more progress in bilateral cooperation in various fields. We welcome Chongqing's active participation in Sri Lanka's national development and construction.

At the invitation of the United National Party, Chen led a CPC delegation to visit Sri Lanka from September 17th to 19th. During his stay in Sri Lanka, Chen also met on separate occasions with Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka; and Mahinda Rajapaksa, former President of Sri Lanka. He visited the Colombo Port City, the Colombo International Container Terminals and other projects, and also visit the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall accompanied by Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of Sri Lankan Parliament.
