Song Tao Meets with UNP Leader and Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka

Beijing, December 18th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Karu Jayasuriya, Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Song said that China and Sri Lanka have long enjoyed friendly relations. President Xi Jinping's successful visit to Sri Lanka in 2014 marks a new stage of China-Sri Lanka relations. China is ready to work with Sri Lanka to strengthen cooperation in such areas as jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, and push for new progress for the strategic cooperative partners of the two countries. The CPC is ready to maintain friendly exchanges with the UNP, share experience in party governance and state administration, and consolidate the political foundation for bilateral relations.

Jayasuriya said that Sri Lanka and China enjoy a long history of friendship. He thanked China for its support and help for the stability and development of Sri Lanka. The UNP attaches great importance to strengthening inter-party exchanges with the CPC and hopes to learn from the CPC's governance experience to promote greater development of Sri Lanka.
