The 14th BRICS Academic Forum Held

Beijing, May 20th—The 14th BRICS Academic Forum, themed on focusing on "cementing intellectual support for BRICS with the focus on common development", was held under the framework of the BRICS Political Parties, Think Tanks and Civil Society Organizations Forum via video link. This forum is hosted by China Council for BRICS Think-tank Cooperation. Guo Yezhou, President of the China Council for BRICS Think Tank Cooperation and Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Cavalcanti, Deputy Director of the Institute for Applied Economic Research of Brazil, Vyacheslav Nikonov, Chair of the Board of the Russian National Committee on BRICS Research and First Vice-chair of State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Samir Saran, President of the Observer Research Foundation of India, Sarah Mosoetsa, Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences of South Africa and Chairperson of the South African BRICS Think Tank attended and addressed the forum.

Guo first briefed the participants on the important spirit of the congratulatory letter sent by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Xi Jinping to the BRICS Political Parties, Think Tanks and Civil Society Organizations Forum, and then pointed out, common development is the original aspiration and the defining feature of BRICS cooperation, and it is also the responsibility and mission of BRICS cooperation. BRICS countries should take development as a priority and make every effort to promote the stable recovery of the global economy. BRICS countries should adhere to common development and accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and adhere to innovative development and build high-quality development partnerships.

More than 60 experts and scholars from BRICS countries attended the forum via video link. The participants had discussions on such topics as "practicing true multilateralism and improving the global economic governance system", "promoting and deepening practical cooperation and implementing the economic partnership strategy", "propelling development transformation and enhancing development momentum", "facilitating scientific and technological innovation and building a solid foundation for modernization", "building a digital BRICS and realizing digital transformation", and "improving manufacturing capacity and the level of industrialization".
