Liu Jianchao Meets with Luis Enrique Manalo, Philippine Foreign Secretary

Manila, August 26th-Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today on the evening with Luis Enrique Manalo, Philippine Foreign Secretary.

Liu said, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos not long ago, and they reached important consensus on and charted the course for the development of China-Philippines relations in the new era. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Philippine side to implement the consensus of the two heads of state, strengthen strategic communication, deepen the friendship between the two peoples, properly settle differences, and jointly build a "golden era" of China-Philippines relations. It is hoped that the two sides will deepen the integration between the Belt and Road Initiative and the "Build, Build, Build" program of the Philippines, and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields. Taking the implementation of the consensus between the leaders of the two countries as guidance, the CPC is willing to work with the Philippine political parties to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and promote the steady development of bilateral relations.

Liu said, with the current complex international and regional situations, China and the Philippines have common interests in aspects including maintaining regional peace and stability. General Secretary Xi Jinping has proposed the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, which aim to achieve common development and universal security in the region and the world. The Chinese side is willing to discuss global development and security with the Philippine side under this framework and contribute its wisdom and strength to maintaining world peace and development.

Manalo spoke positively of the Philippines-China relations, and said that bilateral practical cooperation has achieved fruitful results. It is hoped that both sides will continue to promote cooperation between the two countries in the areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and climate change. The Philippine side will, as always, adhere to the one-China principle. The Philippines advocates putting the South China Sea issue in a proper place in bilateral relations and is willing to work with the Chinese side to properly handle it in a peaceful manner through diplomatic means, so as to jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea. The Philippines believes that the relevant Chinese initiatives will help promote the common development of developing countries. The Philippine side supports the political parties of both countries to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation and play a more important role in the development of bilateral relations.
