Liu Jianchao Meets with Paul Mashatile, Deputy President of the ANC and Deputy President of South Africa at Request

Beijing, November 6th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Paul Mashatile, Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa and Deputy President of South Africa at request.

Mashatile said that he was very pleased to visit China upon invitation and congratulated on the successful opening of the 6th China International Import Expo. During this visit to China, he fully exchanged views with Chinese leaders and reached broad consensus on strengthening relations between the two countries. The ANC of South Africa attaches great importance to its relations with the CPC and thanks the CPC for the long-term support and assistance to the ANC. Currently, the African continent, including South Africa, are facing many new challenges. The ANC is willing to strengthen exchanges on state governance and administration with the CPC, learn experience and practices in strengthening party building from the CPC, be more people-oriented, listen to the people, and understand and serve the people's needs, so as to better realize the Party’s purposes and goals. The ANC is willing to work with the CPC to help the two countries strengthen cooperation in energy and other fields, reinforce coordination in international affairs, and promote stronger development of relations between the two countries.

Liu said, in August this year, President Xi Jinping went to South Africa to attend the 15th BRICS Summit and pay a state visit to South Africa. He and President Cyril Ramaphosa reached important consensus on further deepening China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership, charting the course for the development of China-South Africa relations under the new situation. The Chinese side is willing to work with the South African side to further consolidate traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust, continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, constantly push China-South Africa all-round cooperation to new levels, and better safeguard the strategic, security and development interests of the two countries.

Liu said, currently, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, with increasing uncertainties, instability, and unpredictable factors. The CPC and the ANC, as the ruling parties of respective countries, should strengthen unity and cooperation and work together to deal with risks and challenges on the way forward. The CPC and the ANC have always supported and helped each other. The CPC is willing to work with the South African side to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, strengthen strategic communication, continue the momentum of high-level exchanges, deepen experience exchange in state governance and administration, and promote practical cooperation in various fields, strengthen exchanges between various counterpart departments, enrich the connotation of exchanges, and enhance cooperation under the frameworks such as the BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogue, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Global South, so as to achieve common prosperity and development.
