Moroccan Girl Stayed in Wuhan during the COVID-19 Outbreak2020.06.22
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in Wuhan, over 100 Moroccans left Hubei. However, Hanane Thamik, a Moroccan student in Wuhan University, chose to stay.
Hanane Thamik, a doctoral candidate majoring in E-commerce at Wuhan University, comes from Casablanca, Morocco. In the past six years in China, she has made many remarkable achievements. At Wuhan University, she earned an international MBA degree. She was also selected as the promotion ambassador of Wuhan in 2017, and won the honor of “2018 Distinguished African Student in China”.
Hanane Thamik can speak seven languages and often shares her experiences of study and life in China, especially at Wuhan University, on social media. Many Moroccan students got to know the studies and life in Wuhan from her before coming to China. She is now learning Russian and Turkish.
Hanane Thamik said, “China is my second home. I love this country very much. I can’t leave the people who trust me and are so proud of me. By staying here, I want to show those who think poorly of China, that I’m happy to stay with the Chinese people.”
Hanane Thamik said Chinese leaders were very wise, and they were taking prudent measures to handle the epidemic situation here. Besides, Chinese medical staff were trying their best to save the COVID-19 patients, and those infected would get well soon. In the interview, she said that the Chinese government and Wuhan University were doing a good job. The teachers cared about the student’s safety very much. Wuhan University provided free masks, treatment, and meals for them. The students took all the necessary protection measures.
Hanane Thamik also donated RMB 5,000 yuan, hoping to stand with all Chinese to go through the hard times. She believed that China would surely win the battle against the epidemic. “Let’s fight together!”
