Wang Jiarui meets with EWI board members

BEIJING, May 17 -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with chief members of the board of directors of the EastWest Institute of the US who are in China for a board meeting. The two sides exchanged views on China-US relations.

Wang said close exchanges and cooperation between China and the US will benefit both countries and the rest of the world. Stable and healthy development of China-US relations represents the general trend and conforms to the wish of the people. In the new circumstance, the two countries must earnestly implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and consolidate and develop their cooperative partnership so as to find the way to build the new-type of relation between major countries, said the vice-chairman.

The American side believe that a strong US-China relation is of great importance to both countries and to the whole world. The two countries should further strengthen cooperation and promote mutual understanding and trust so as to promote greater achievement in the bilateral relations.
