The 6th China-US High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue held in Beijing

BEIJING, Nov. 18 -- The 6th China-US High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue was held in Beijing on 18th. The Dialogue was attended by some 30 participants including, from the Chinese side: Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and minister of the International Department, Yu Hongjun, vice-minister of the International Department, Gao Yongzhong, vice-minister of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, and heads of bureaus of the International Department, officials from departments of the CPC Central Foreign Affairs Office and the Research Office of the State Council, and from the American side a bipartisan delegation led by Howard Berman, former chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Anthony Parker, treasurer of the Republican National Committee and John Mroz, president and CEO of the EastWest Institute.

The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the two main topics “China and U.S. Political Parties: Innovating Policies in the Face of Domestic Challenges” and “China-U.S. Relations: Strengthening Cooperation and Coordination for a Harmonious Asia-Pacific Region”.

The Chinese side made explanation on the general deployment made on 3rd Plenary Session of 18th CPC Central Committee about comprehensively deepening reforms and emphasized that China’s economy and social development will step up as a result and that Socialism with Chinese Characteristics will keep improving and developing. The American side congratulated China on the successful convention of 3rd Plenary Session and expressed appreciation for the CPC’s resolution and courage in furthering the reform and opening-up. Both sides are convinced that China and the U.S. must be firmly committed to building the new-type of major country relations and the Political Party Leaders Dialogue is a useful platform to facilitate greater development in such relations.

Since 2010, on the platform of the Dialogue the Communist Party of China and the Democratic Party and Republican Party of the U.S. have had rounds of candid and in-depth exchange of views on their respective political philosophies and policies, bilateral relations and international and regional issues of shared interest. The Dialogue has played a positive role as a mechanism in enhancing mutual understanding and trust between China and the U.S.
