BEIJING, Sept. 27 --- The International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) held on the afternoon of Sept. 27 a briefing on "China's Poverty Reduction and the CPC". At the briefing, Fan Xiaojian, head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (LGOP) gave a presentation on China's poverty reduction work and took questions from foreign diplomats. Nearly 60 diplomats from foreign embassies in Beijing attended the briefing.

This year is of special significance for China's poverty reduction, since it is the last year in implementing the "Poverty Alleviation Programme for the First Ten Years of the New Century" and also the year for making the programme for the next ten years. Several days ago, the MDG Summit of the United Nations called for timely implementation of the MDGs. China has caught extensive attention for its outstanding work in implementing the MDGs. As early as this July, at the ICAPP Conference on Poverty Alleviation held by the CPC, many foreign political parties already expressed the wish for better understanding of China's work in poverty reduction. The IDCPC held the briefing in hope of cooperating with the UN's Millennium Agenda and of further sharing the CPC's experiences in poverty reduction with the international community.

In his presentation, Fan talked about the CPC's long-term and arduous explorations in poverty reduction and China's basic experiences and thoughts on further work on poverty reduction. He also answered questions by diplomats from the embassies of Norway, Thailand, etc. The diplomat from Norway expressed thanks for having this briefing which she described as detailed, timely and open.

The briefing belongs to a series of activities to get the information about the CPC out and a specific measure to enhance the openness and transparency of the CPC. Diplomats at the briefing expressed the view that it helped them deepen the understanding about the ruling philosophy and means of the CPC and laid a solid foundation for more interaction in the future.
