Song Tao Holds Talks with Tunisian Foreign Minister

Tunis, July 26th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held talks with Khemaies Jhinaoui, Foreign Minister of Tunisia.

Song said that for the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the political mutual trust between the two countries has been constantly deepened, with fruitful results from practical cooperation in various fields, and mutual understanding and support on issues concerning each other's core interests and close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs as well as close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China appreciates Tunisia's efforts to actively promote its diversified diplomacy and is ready to work with Tunisia to enhance communication and synergy, deepen pragmatic cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, jointly promote the development of bilateral relations and set a good example for building China-Arab strategic partnership and China-Africa community of shared future in the new era. China is ready to take Tunisia's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council as an opportunity to enhance coordination and cooperation on multilateral occasions, jointly uphold the multilateral system with the UN as its core and make greater contribution to world peace and development.

Jhinaoui said, Tunisia-China relations have maintained sustained and rapid development. Tunisia sees China’s development as an opportunity for itself and is willing to actively participate the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas, comprehensively enhance the level of bilateral relations, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs to jointly uphold multilateralism and international justice.

On behalf of the Chinese side, Song expressed condolences on the passing away of President Beji Caid Essebsi. The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional hotspot issues.
