Beijing, October 26th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held a video call here today with Mathibeli Edwin Mokhothu, Leader of the Democratic Congress of Lesotho and Deputy Prime Minister of Lesotho.

Song said, under the joint care and personal promotion of President Xi Jinping and the top leader of Lesotho in recent years, China-Lesotho relationship is now at its best in history. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the two countries have fought against the pandemic together, continuously deepening political mutual trust and friendship between the two peoples. The CPC attaches great importance to relations with the Democratic Congress of Lesotho. Through inter-party channels, the CPC is committed to comprehensively implementing the importance consensus reached by leaders of both sides, and strengthening strategic communication and experience exchange in state governance, so as to promote bilateral cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and climate change, to well implement the foreign aid measures announced by President Xi Jinping, and to boost the high-quality development of the Belt and Road cooperation for new results. China is willing to, together with Lesotho, reinforce communication on international affairs and safeguard peace, development, fairness and justice of the world.

Song mainly introduced the achievements and experience of the CPC over the past 100 years, and the spirit of the important speech by Xi Jinping at a central conference on work related to people's congresses held recently. Song said, since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has stayed committed to a people-centered philosophy, led China to eradicate absolute poverty for the first time in history, built China into a moderately prosperous society, and continuously developed whole-process people’s democracy, which shows that China’s national rejuvenation has become a historical inevitability.

Mokhothu spoke highly of the Chinese people’s success in blazing a trail of socialism with Chinese characteristics and huge development achievements under the leadership of the CPC, as well as highly appreciated whole-process people’s democracy put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping. Lesotho sees China as an important strategic cooperation partner, commends China for always upholding the principle that all countries, big or small, are equal. Mokhothu thanked China for its precious support in Lesotho’s national development and the fight against the COVID-19. Mokhothu said, Lesotho resolutely pursues the One China policy, and will continue to, together with China, enhance mutual support on issues involving each other’s core interests and major concerns. Democratic Congress hopes to take the establishment of relations with the CPC as an opportunity to strengthen inter-party exchanges, and deepen practical cooperation. It is hoped both sides will reinforce communication on international affairs and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries.
