Liu Jianchao Holds a Group Meeting with Diplomatic Envoys from Latin American and Caribbean Countries

Beijing, July 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), held a group meeting here today with diplomatic envoys from Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Liu said, since the beginning of the new century, China and Latin American countries have continuously strengthened political mutual trust, achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation, deepened friendly relations between the peoples and intensified coordination in international affairs. Relations between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries have become an exemplar of state-to-state relations and South-South cooperation. General Secretary Xi Jinping has paid five visits to Latin American and Caribbean countries, during which he and the heads of states of these countries established the new position of the comprehensive cooperative partnership of equality, mutual benefit and common development between China and Latin America, and made clear the direction of building a community with a shared future for China-Latin America. Inter-party relationship between both sides is an indispensible part of China-Latin America relations. Since the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic, political parties of both sides have actively given play to the role of “political parties plus” through online exchanges, mainly had candid exchanges and deepened cooperation in major issues such as epidemic prevention and control, resumption of work and production, poverty alleviation, and construction of political parties, playing an active part in pushing China-Latin America for leapfrog development. As a Chinese saying goes, “Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations.” The CPC is willing to strengthen strategic communication with political parties of Latin American and Caribbean countries, deepen exchanges and mutual learning, and facilitate cooperation in such areas as politics, economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement and tourism, to promote China-Latin America relations for more results and continue the friendship of the peoples.

Diplomatic envoys from Latin American and Caribbean countries spoke highly of China’s huge achievements in fighting the epidemic and promoting the economic and social development under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core. They said that during their tenure in China, they fully realized the truth that without the CPC, there would be no new China. The diplomatic envoys thanked the Chinese side for the precious support in aspects including anti-epidemic, and economic and trade cooperation, highly commended the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping, believed the two initiatives are in line with the concepts of their own countries, and expressed the willingness to actively push the implementation of the two initiatives. Calling inter-party exchanges an increasingly dynamic part of Latin America-China relations, they expressed the readiness to actively push communication and cooperation between political parties of both sides, deepen mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration and push Latin America-China comprehensive cooperative partnership for further development. The diplomatic envoys wished the 20th CPC National Congress a complete success.
