Christchurch, May 24th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Phil Mauger, Mayor of Christchurch of New Zealand.   

Liu said, sub-national cooperation is an important part of the development of China-New Zealand relations. Christchurch has long maintained friendly exchanges with many Chinese provinces and cities, carried out extensive practical cooperation in economy, trade, education, culture, tourism, etc., and extended a helping hand when help was needed. It is hoped that the two sides will further intensify exchanges at all levels, deepen cooperation in various fields, and jointly push the development of China-New Zealand relations.  

Mauger warmly welcomed Liu and his delegation. He said Christchurch is very happy to establish friendly cooperative relations with Chinese provinces and cities. He looked forward to leading a municipal government and business delegation to visit China in the second half of this year to explore cooperation opportunities with the Chinese side to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
