Tokyo, May 29th—Fumio Kishida, President of the Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister of Japan, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Fumio Kishida welcomed Liu's visit to Japan with a CPC delegation, saying that President Xi Jinping and I met in San Francisco last November and jointly confirmed advancing the Japan-China strategic relationship of mutual benefit in an all-round way. I had a meaningful meeting with Premier Li Qiang in Seoul a few days ago. The Japanese side is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, give full play to the role of various dialogue mechanisms, conduct dialogue on some unresolved issues, carry out mutually beneficial cooperation in relevant fields, and strive to achieve concrete progress and results. Political party exchanges play a very important role in the development of Japan-China relations. This visit of the CPC delegation brings an important opportunity for Japan and China to strengthen political party exchanges. The Japanese side is ready to engage in communication and dialogue with the Chinese side on global issues.

Liu said, in November last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in San Francisco, providing strategic guidance for China-Japan relations. Recently, the heads of government of China and Japan had in-depth exchanges in the Republic of Korea and achieved positive results. In recent times, China-Japan relations have generally been developing in a stable direction, but there are also challenges. Both sides should jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges at all levels, strive to establish objective and accurate mutual understanding, and jointly promote the construction of China-Japan relations that fit the needs of the new era. Maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait is in the common interest of China and Japan. The Japanese side should abide by the one-China principle, effectively safeguard the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and properly handle sensitive issues such as the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges with various political parties in Japan to promote the improvement and development of China-Japan relations. China is comprehensively advancing Chinese modernization and stands ready to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results with Japan to promote common development.
