Tokyo, May 30th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held discussions with Japanese mainstream media outlets. It was attended by media representatives from Kyodo News, NHK, Yomiuri Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Tokyo Shimbun, TV Asahi, and TBS Television.
Liu said, Chinese and Japanese media are important windows for people of both sides to understand each other, and objective and accurate reporting and shaping positive perceptions are the shared responsibilities and missions of the media of the two countries. As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the exchange of journalists between China and Japan, the media of the two countries should uphold the original aspiration of sending journalists to each other, adhere to the vision and perseverance of seeking common ground while shelving differences, view each other in a rational and inclusive manner, and tell stories of China-Japan friendship, development, cooperation and peace well.
Liu answered questions from journalists and expounded his positions and views on how to strengthen non-governmental exchanges and cultural communication between China and Japan and enhance mutual goodwill, as well as on issues such as China’s economic development prospects, business environment for foreign companies in China, the Taiwan question, the South China Sea, and the Korean Peninsula.
