Liu Jianchao Meets with Somsavat Lengsavad, Former Politburo Member of the LPRP Central Committee and Former Lao Deputy Prime Minister

Beijing, June 27thLiu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Somsavat Lengsavad, former Politburo Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and former Deputy Prime Minister of Laos.  


Liu welcomed Somsavat’s visit to China for the conference marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Appreciating Somsavat's long-term commitment to promoting the development of China-Laos relations, Liu said, General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith have signed a new five-year action plan on building a China-Laos community with a shared future, providing guidance for the building of a community with a shared future between China and Laos. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Lao side to implement the important consensus reached by General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith, intensify inter-party exchanges, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in such areas as party building, anti-corruption, and theoretical discussions, deepen the docking of development strategies, focus on practical cooperation, and intensify multilateral coordination so as to promote the development of relations between the two Parties and the two countries and the cause of socialism.  

Somsavat noted, he visited Xinjiang during his visit to China this time, and witnessed with his own eyes the great achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC in the fields of economic and social development, national unity, and poverty alleviation. Laos and China are both socialist countries, and should jointly implement the new five-year action plan on building a Laos-China community with a shared future, carry forward traditional friendship, strengthen exchanges of experience in party governance and state administration, firmly support each other, and promote greater development of Laos-China relations. Appreciating China's important role on the international stage, the Lao side is willing to work closely with the Chinese side to unite and coordinate closely to jointly safeguard international fairness and justice. It is believed that China's holding of the conference marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence will make new and important contributions to the cause of international and regional peace and development.  

Zhao Shitong, Assistant-minister of the IDCPC, Valaxay Lengsavad, Deputy Head of the LPRP Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, and Somphone Sichaleune, Lao Ambassador to China, were present at the meeting.
