Liu Jianchao Meets with Macarena Rubio, President of the National Party of Uruguay, and Álvaro Delgado, Presidential Candidate

Montevideo, August 6th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Macarena Rubio, President of the National Party of Uruguay, and Álvaro Delgado, presidential candidate. Armando Castaingdebat, Minister of Defense of Uruguay, and Gerardo Amarilla, Vice-Minister of Environment of Uruguay, were present. 


Liu said, China-Uruguay relations maintain healthy and stable development, with fruitful cooperation results in various fields. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Uruguayan side to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, science, technology, environmental protection, people-to-people and cultural engagement, etc., and promote China-Uruguay comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination and cooperation with the Uruguayan side to drive the continuous development of relations between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries. 

Calling the National Party an important political force in Uruguay, Liu said the CPC's efforts in maintaining friendly exchanges with the National Party play an important political leading role in the development of China-Uruguay relations. Liu introduced the CPC's development process and governance achievements in combination with China's modern and contemporary history. He said, the CPC is willing to further strengthen high-level exchanges with the National Party, enhance exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, expand youth exchanges, and continuously consolidate the social and public opinion foundation of China-Uruguay friendship. Liu also introduced the spirit of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, saying that China is advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. The Chinese side is willing to share development opportunities with all countries in the world, including Uruguay. 

The Uruguayan side welcomed the visit of the CPC delegation to the headquarters of the National Party. They said Uruguay and China are far apart, different in size and culture, but stay committed to equal treatment and mutual support, becoming good friends and partners. During the difficult period of Uruguay's fight against the epidemic, the Chinese side provided valuable support to help Uruguay overcome difficulties, for which Uruguay is deeply grateful. The Uruguayan side supports and actively participates in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and hopes to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in economy, trade, infrastructure, military, and environmental protection. More Chinese companies are welcome to establish and develop business in Uruguay. The National Party and the CPC are both century-old parties and ruling parties. Exchanges between the two Parties are of great significance to the development of relations between the two countries. The National Party hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, enhance friendship between the peoples, and promote relations between the two Parties and the two countries for greater development.
