Liu Jianchao Meets with Gwen Ramokgopa, ANC Treasurer General of South Africa

Beijing, September 4th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Gwen Ramokgopa, Treasurer General of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. 


Liu said, President Xi Jinping recently held talks with President Cyril Ramaphosa, who came to China for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). They announced the elevation of bilateral ties to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, providing strategic guidance for further deepening bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to work with the South African side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, firmly support each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, strengthen the integration of development strategies, and expand practical cooperation in various fields. China and South Africa are both important members of the Global South. The Chinese side will fully support the work of South Africa, which will hold the rotating presidency of the Group of 20 next year, and is willing to work with the South African side to strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs, safeguard world peace and promote common development. 

Liu said, the CPC and the ANC have shared weal and woe and supported each other, which has effectively promoted the development of relations between the two countries. The Chinese side will continue to stand firmly with the ANC, strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, strengthen cooperation in areas such as party building and cadre training, and promote practical cooperation in areas such as economy and trade through inter-party channels. 

Ramokgopa said, shortly after the establishment of the new South African government, President Cyril Ramaphosa led a delegation to pay a state visit to China and attend the 2024 Summit of the FOCAC, reaching new important consensus with President Xi Jinping on the development of bilateral relations. The South African side believes that the FOCAC is an important platform with strategic significance, and the Summit is crucial to the development of Africa-China and South Africa-China relations. At present, South Africa is facing a new situation. The ANC will take the establishment of the new government as an opportunity to continue to shoulder responsibilities, unite and lead the South African people to promote greater development of the country. The ANC attaches great importance to its brotherly relationship with the CPC, and hopes to strengthen exchanges with the CPC at all levels, deepen theoretical and practical experience exchanges on party building, and promote cooperation in economy, trade, energy, poverty alleviation, etc. through inter-party channels to help the development of South Africa. The South African side hopes to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side in multilateral mechanisms such as the BRICS and the Group of 20, to safeguard the common interests of the Global South countries.
