Beijing, October 10th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Luis Gilberto Murillo, Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Liu said, last October, President Xi Jinping and President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, who was on a visit to China, jointly upgraded China-Colombia relations to a strategic partnership, drawing a new blueprint for the development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side highly appreciates the Colombian side's long-term adherence to the one-China principle. It is willing to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, take the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and join hands in the path of modernization. The Colombian side is welcome to actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The IDCPC is willing to strengthen political dialogue with Colombian political parties, enhance mutual understanding, and promote China-Colombia relations for greater development. The Chinese side attaches importance to developing China-Latin America relations, and is willing to work with Latin American countries, including Colombia, to actively implement the three major global initiatives, strengthen multilateral coordination, and promote China-Latin America relations for better development in the new era.
Murillo said, Colombia attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle. It is willing to work with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, conduct political dialogue between political parties, jointly build the BRI, strengthen interconnectivity, deepen cooperation in economy, trade, culture, etc., and push Colombia-China strategic partnership for more solid and in-depth growth, to better benefit the two peoples. Colombia will assume the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) next year and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China within the framework of the China-CELAC Forum, to promote the sustainable and in-depth development of Latin American-China relations.
