The Fourth China-Pacific Island Countries Political Leadership Dialogue Held

On October 17th, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) held the Fourth China-Pacific Island Countries Political Leadership Dialogue themed "Explore the Path to Modernization with High-quality Development" at the Museum of the Communist Party of China in Beijing. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the IDCPC, delivered a keynote speech. Leaders of political parties and diplomatic envoys in China from Pacific Island Countries (PICs) were present, including Lord Tu'ivakano, Noble MP and former Prime Minister of Tonga, Russ Joseph Kun, former President and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Nauru, Johnny Koanapo Rasou, President of the Vanuaaku Party and Minister of Finance and Economic Management of Vanuatu, Quincy Lawrence, Floor leader of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, Kobby Bomareo, Member of the PANGU Party, Member of the National Parliament, and Minister for Housing and Urban Development of Papua New Guinea, John Junior Tuhaika, Member of Parliament, Member of the People First Party and Minister for Public Service of Solomon Islands, Betero Atanibora, Chairman of Kiribati's Tobwaan Kiribati Party, and Mosese Bulitavu, Independent Member of the Parliament of Fiji.

Liu said, this year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's first collective meeting with leaders of PICs having diplomatic relations with China. Over the past decade, we have upheld the spirit of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and pushed the comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development between China and the PICs for fruitful results, setting a model of South-South cooperation and mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. No matter how the international situation changes, China fully respects the sovereignty and independence of the PICs, and upholds the principle that all countries, big or small, are equal, and is always a good friend with similar aspirations of the PICs. China fully respects the will of the PICs, stays committed to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits and win-win cooperation, and is always a good brother sharing will and woe with the PICs. China fully respects the PICs' cultural traditions and cherishes harmony in differences, and is always a good partner walking side by side with the PICs. China supports the PICs in seeking development through unity, and in implementing the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, so as to contribute to the building of a peaceful, harmonious, secure, inclusive and prosperous blue Pacific.

Liu said, China and the PICs are partners walking side by side on the road of modernization. We value the diversity, as well as the people-oriented, sustainable, mutually beneficial and peaceful nature of modernization, and strive to achieve common development, shared development, green development, open development and secure development. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges and dialogues with political parties in the PICs, learn from each other on national development and planning, system building, social governance, etc., promote practical cooperation in poverty alleviation, agricultural production, trade and investment, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields, explore a path of modernization suitable for respective national conditions, enhance people's well-being, implement the three major global initiatives, and work together to build a closer China-PICs community with a shared future.

The political heavyweights of the PICs present said during the visit to the Museum of the Communist Party of China, they learnt about the CPC's extraordinary struggle and admired the CPC's great achievements in leading the Chinese people in modernization construction since the founding of the People's Republic of China 75 years ago. They thanked China for the long-term valuable support and assistance to the independence, development and modernization of the PICs. Cherishing China as an important partner of the PICs, they believe there is great potential for China-PICs cooperation. The political parties of the PICs will continue to firmly abide by the one-China principle and are willing to strengthen inter-party exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, deepen cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, humanities, climate change, etc., and work together to promote the modernization process and achieve common and sustainable development. The three major global initiatives proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping provide China's solutions for promoting the development of developing countries including the PICs, and jointly building a better world. The PICs are willing to work with China to actively implement the three major global initiatives, push forward the Belt and Road cooperation, deepen South-South cooperation, and strengthen multilateral coordination, to jointly promote regional peace, development and prosperity.

Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, presided over the Dialogue. Representatives from the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Office of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) at the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the China International Development Cooperation Agency, the Museum of the Communist Party of China, officials at local level and representatives from universities were present.

Prior to the dialogue, Liu had a collective meeting met with the political heavyweights and diplomatic envoys of the PICs in China.
