Jakarta, January 17th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and former Indonesian President.
Liu stated that President Sukarno and President Megawati had made historic contributions to the development of China-Indonesia relations. Currently, bilateral relations enjoy a sound development momentum with fruitful cooperation in trade and economy, etc. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Indonesian side to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto, and to further strengthen all-round strategic coordination between the two countries. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. Both China and Indonesia are key members of the Global South, and in the face of profound and complex changes in the international situation, the two sides should carry forward the Bandung Spirit, strengthen coordination and cooperation within platforms such as BRICS, and jointly safeguard world and regional peace and stability while promoting development and prosperity. Recognizing the PDI-P's important role in Indonesian politics, Liu said the CPC is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with the PDI-P, continue traditional friendship, and promote the development of bilateral relations.
Megawati fondly recalled the interactions between her late father, President Sukarno, and China, as well as her own experiences in fostering ties with the country. She noted that her father established a deep friendship with China’s older generation of leaders and stayed committed to promoting bilateral friendship. She said, I have visited China multiple times and witnessed the country's remarkable development and transformation during my every visit, and hoped to visit China again. General Secretary Xi Jinping's "two centenary goals" helped the rural population of China eradicate absolute poverty. Indonesia will learn relevant experiences from China. Indonesia, along with China and other nations, should further strengthen and carry forward the Bandung Spirit, and help the vast number of developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America strengthen solidarity and cooperation, so as to achieve common development.
Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary-General of the PDI-P, and Ahmad Basarah, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Division of the PDI-P Central Leadership Board and others were present.
