Beijing, March 21st—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a delegation led by Katsuya Okada, Executive Adviser and former Secretary General of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
Liu said, last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met in Lima and reached important consensus on the development of China-Japan relations. Both sides should work together to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic and political dialogue, foster correct mutual understanding, enhance strategic mutual trust, uphold the commitment to lasting friendship, properly handle historical, Taiwan-related and other major sensitive issues, and promote further improvement in China-Japan relations. As important countries in Asia and the world at large, China and Japan should jointly safeguard regional and world peace, stability and prosperity.
Liu said, the political parties of the two countries shoulder important responsibilities for the improvement and development of China-Japan relations. The CPC is ready to strengthen political dialogue with the Constitutional Democratic Party and other political parties in Japan, conduct candid and in-depth communication on respective development paths and international and regional issues of common interest, strive to improve public opinion and enhance friendly feelings among the people, and make due contributions as political parties to jointly building a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship fit for the new era.
Katsuya Okada said, Japan and China are important neighbors to each other, and politicians of both sides shoulder the common mission of bringing more benefits to the two peoples. As an important political force in Japan, the Constitutional Democratic Party attaches great importance to Japan-China relations. Japan's major political parties have consensus on promoting the improvement and development of Japan-China relations, and the Constitutional Democratic Party is willing to continue to play its role in promoting exchanges and dialogue between Japan and China at all levels. Japan abides by the principles of the Japan-China Joint Statement, and the commitment to understanding and respecting China's position on the Taiwan question remains unchanged.
The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common interest.
Zhao Shitong, Assistant-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, was present.
