Nicosia, June 6th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives and President of the Democratic Rally Party of Cyprus. 

Liu noted that both China and Cyprus have a long history and splendid culture. The two peoples share similar concepts and understand each other. The most important political foundation of China-Cyprus relations is that the two sides always understand and support each other on issues involving respective core interests and major concerns. China is willing to work with Cyprus to better promote the integration of development strategies, deepen cooperation such as the Belt and Road cooperation, intensify exchanges between political parties and legislatures, enhance friendship between the two peoples, and elevate China-Cyprus strategic partnership to a higher level. The world today is fraught with turbulence. China is willing to work with all countries, including Cyprus, to uphold true multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, protectionism and bullying, work for a more just and equitable international order, and build a community with a shared future for mankind together. 

Liu noted that China and Europe are partners rather than rivals, and are each other's opportunities rather than challenges. China appreciates Cyprus's firm commitment to the general direction of China-Europe friendship within the European Union (EU). It is hoped that Cyprus will continue to play a constructive role and promote the development of China-Europe relations. The CPC is willing to engage in political dialogues with all political parties in Cyprus, including the Democratic Rally Party, promote youth, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as well as further consolidate the foundation of China-Cyprus friendship. 

Demetriou said, China is a strong partner and close friend of Cyprus. Cyprus adheres to the one-China principle and thanks China for upholding justice and principles on the Cyprus problem. Cyprus is willing to, together with China, further tap potential and comprehensively promote cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, technology, education, etc., so that the Cyprus-China friendship will flourish and yield more tangible outcomes. Europe and China should be cooperative partners. Cyprus actively supports the development of EU-China relations. The world today is full of challenges such as war, conflict, protectionism, and hate speech. Cooperation is the only way out. China is by no means a threat, but brings precious certainty to the world. Cyprus appreciates China's role in international affairs and is ready to enhance coordination with China to promote inter-civilization exchanges and dialogues to make the world a better place. The Democratic Rally Party stands ready to strengthen exchanges and dialogues with the CPC.
