Beijing, July 3rd—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the luncheon of the 13th World Peace Forum and delivered a keynote speech on establishing the right security outlook for true and lasting peace.
Liu pointed out, peace and security have always been major propositions and key variables in the process of human civilization's development, and they are also the most urgent and complex global challenges facing the world today. Adhering to the wrong notion of "zero-sum game" is an important cause of war and conflict. Currently, the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the form of war. If the obsession with the "zero-sum game" and "absolute security" persists, it may lead to mutual destruction, which will be a price that human civilization cannot afford.
Liu said, wars and chaos should not be the destiny of mankind; lasting peace is our ultimate goal. President Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind, emphasizing that all countries share a common destiny, common interests, common security and common prosperity. This vision offers a brand-new path for the world to achieve peace, prosperity, security and progress. China's commitment to peaceful development is rooted in its own cultural heritage, the requirements of the times and its strategic choice. It is also the only way to go under the concept of "a shared future". We firmly believe that this path will lead to success. China has not only achieved rapid economic growth and long-term social stability for itself, but also worked with its neighboring countries to promote long-term stability and common prosperity in Asia. It has formed an Asian security model featuring a shared future, seeking common ground while reserving differences and dialogue and consultation, providing a reference for other regions of the world.
Liu called on all countries to foster a correct security concept, follow the path of peaceful development together, and reflect their profound understanding of "a shared future" and choice of the "path of peaceful development" in their security and development strategies and policy options. All countries should take concrete actions to jointly address security challenges and promote lasting peace.
Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, presided over the event. After the speech, Liu also answered questions on maintaining the multilateral trading system, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and safeguarding world peace, the CPC's exchanges with the world, China-US relations, and the “China threat” narrative.
