Beijing, April 22ndLiu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Younous Omarjee, Vice President of the European Parliament.

Liu said, unprecedented changes are unfolding at a faster pace across the globe, and international instability is intensifying, making the strategic significance and global influence of China-Europe relations even more prominent. Since last year, President Xi Jinping has met with several leaders of institutions of the European Union (EU) and European countries during their visits to China, engaging in in-depth exchanges on developing China-EU relations and addressing global challenges. China views Europe as an important pole in a multipolar world, supports the EU's strategic autonomy, and is willing to work with the EU to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, strengthen open and mutually beneficial cooperation, deepen exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and enhance multilateral communication and coordination to provide more stability and certainty to the world fraught with changes and turmoil. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Left group and other major political groups in the European Parliament to contribute to the development of China-EU relations.

Omarjee said, in the face of a turbulent world, it is crucial for the EU and China, the two major civilizations and two major forces, to strengthen dialogue and cooperation. The EU is willing to work with China, on the basis of mutual respect, to strengthen balanced and mutually beneficial cooperation, constructively handle differences, explore cooperation potential, build greater consensus, and jointly address global challenges to safeguard multilateralism and the stability of the international order. The European Parliament will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and is willing to further strengthen exchanges between political parties and legislatures with China, thereby playing a constructive role in ensuring the steady and long-term development of EU-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Ma Hui, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, was present.
